Mount Alexander Animal Welfare (MAAW) is a not-for-profit shelter and rescue organisation committed to rehoming stray, surrendered, and rescue animals — and to promoting animal welfare in the wider Mt Alexander Shire community.
🐾 What MAAW Offers
- Temporary shelter, care and rehabilitation for dogs, cats and a variety of other pets (rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, birds, etc.).
- An adoption program with online listings and clear adoption procedures (online enquiry, meet & greet, optional trial period) to help match pets with their forever home.
- A dedicated “op shop” — secondhand shop — whose proceeds help fund shelter operations and improvements.
- Volunteer opportunities and a community-based membership program (from 10 AUD/year) that supports broader welfare initiatives, including a “Helping PAWS” fund to assist pet owners in financial need with vet costs.
The shelters and rescue groups in Castlemaine are working every day to care for animals in need—and they can't do it alone. Whether you choose to adopt, foster, volunteer, or donate, your support helps save lives and build a more compassionate community. Reach out to a local organization today and become part of the change.
