The Mareeba Animal Refuge is a not-for-profit boarding and rehoming facility operated by Friends of the Animals Inc (FOTA) under lease from Mareeba Shire Council.
Key Features & Services
- Animal Intake & Care: FOTA takes in surrendered, stray, or impounded cats and dogs from Mareeba Shire and surrounding areas, providing experienced and compassionate care.
- Adoption Process: The process is flexible and primarily conducted in person. Staff guide adopters to find the best match and offer trial periods. They’re understanding—if things don’t work out, they’ll take the animal back.
- Council Pound Services: Animals impounded by the council are held here. To reclaim a pet, owners must pay relevant fees, register and microchip dogs if required.
The shelters and rescue groups in Mareeba are working every day to care for animals in need—and they can\'t do it alone.
